SHAH ALAM - Semiconductor chips or microchips are a component that can help car companies offer more capabilities to their customers by combining various control functions in the vehicle.
Automotive Analyst Shamsul Yunos said the number of microchips used in cars will increase as modern vehicles are getting far more complex.
According to him, modern vehicles now offer a variety of features that expand on comfort, safety and also a connection to the internet.
"In the future, cars are expected to be more like a moving computer and require more microchips and even the use a much more powerful microprocessor than what is being used now.
"This is especially true for cars with autonomous mode or self-driving capabilities,'' he said.
He also stated that technology that utilises the internet has become much more sophisticated and requires higher processing power to provide a much more interactive user interface.
“The microchip supply shortage may continue throughout the year and will begin to recover in mid-2023 when demand and supply are much more stable.
"This will allows all parties to come up with a much more organised plan for production and utilisation,'' he said.
