Kampung Tinusa 2 residents startled by brief hailstorm
SANDAKAN - An unusual phenomenon occurred at the Kampung Tinusa 2 water village near here when the residents were startled by a brief hailstorm about 30 minutes before the breaking of fast today.
The incident, lasting about 20 minutes, occurred around 5.50 pm together with heavy rain and strong winds, said Sungai Sibuga community leader Osman Tiakok, who is also a resident of the village.
"Although we often experience rainy weather, strong winds and abnormally high tides as our village is exposed to the elements, this is the first time we have experienced a hailstorm.
"But, Alhamdulillah, the situation eased after a while. So far, there has been no report of damage to houses,” he said when contacted by Bernama.
Osman said the villagers were excited to see hailstones raining down on the roofs and gardens of their houses and hitting their car windscreens, with some quickly recording the incident.
The Meteorological Department has forecast thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds to hit Sabah until 11 tonight. - BERNAMA
