SHAH ALAM - Former PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli has agreed for Malay daily Sinar Harian to be the main organiser of a debate between former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim over Sapura Energy Bhd.

Rafizi said his party accepts Sinar Harian's invitation to be the main organiser for debate if all parties agree.

“We agree.

"The faster, the better," Rafizi told Sinar Harian.

Rafizi and Najib have been trading barbs over Sapura bailout in social media. Rafizi had then challenged Najib to debate with Anwar to which the latter agreed.

Yesterday, Najib, the Pekan MP, in his Facebook page said: "game on, let's rock".

Sinar Harian, the best-selling Malay news newspaper, and famous for its debates called 'Berani Semuka', Sinar Harian has offered to be the organiser over hotly debated issue after Rafizi insisted that the former prime minister accept responsibility for the RM983 million paid out to Sapura’s former chief executive officer (CEO).

Rafizi had further said that although Sapura was not a government-linked company (GLC) when Najib was prime minister and finance minister, he was still responsible as a trustee of Permodalan Nasional Bhd (PNB) and could object to any dealings by Sapura that could be detrimental to PNB.

Meanwhile, Kumpulan Sinar editor-in-chief Rozaid Rahman said ‘Berani Semuka’ would be the best platform for the debate.

“It is an iconic programme by Sinar Harian and it has hosted debates for many prominent figures since it was introduced in 2020,” he said in a statement.

This comes after Najib asked Anwar's team and Rafizi to arrange the debate with a media to broadcast live.
