SHAH ALAM - Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob says toll rates for four major highways in Klang Valley will remain the same until the concession period is over.

The highways include Shah Alam Expressway (Kesas), Sprint Expressway (SPRINT), Stormwater Management and Road Tunnel (SMART) and Damansara-Puchong Expressway (LDP).

"After studying all aspects including the burden on consumers, government obligations, Concession Agreements and financial burden, the government has agreed to the proposed restructuring of four highway concessionaires in Klang Valley," he said in a statement on Monday

Ismail stated that the restructuring implemented will be in line with the government's objective not to burden the people.

The process were expected to reduce the compensation cost from Jan 1, 2022, while enabling the government to save at least RM4.3 billion in toll subsidies.

"This saving can benefit development projects for the country and other facilities that will be prioritised for the well being of Keluarga Malaysia.

"The restructuring will be done based on the principles as well as the main objective of the government which is to alleviate the burden of Keluarga Malaysia while not giving any financial implication towards the government,'' he said.
