'Do you still want to work with Bersatu', Zahid ask Umno after Muhyiddin's meeting with opposition
SHAH ALAM - Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi says the intentions of former prime minister Tan Sri Muyhiddin Yassin to become the prime minister again are now clearer, and those who want to cooperate and defend Bersatu should evaluate their actions.
"Do you want to continue working with such a party?," he asked in his Facebook page.
"Umno is not perfect. But we are not desperate to sell our principles and willing to do anything just to seize power," he added.
Zahid further said Muhyiddin's intentions could be seen from his recent meeting with Pejuang chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
"It has been reported that the Bersatu president wants to be the prime minister again.
"We thought there is an ideology but it seems its for personal gain,' he said.
Zahid went on to say Muhyiddin also had a meeting with PKR President Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim "although there are no further details".
On April 1, Pejuang chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad had said Muhyiddin wanted his help to regain the prime minister’s post. “Muhyiddin met me and wanted my support to help him become the prime minister again,” Mahathir had said.
A day later, Muhyiddin responded stating the meeting was part of initiative to explore possible avenues of cooperation during the 15th general election (GE15). Muhyiddin further said the initiative was an early step to get the views of leaders of main political parties besides Barisan Nasional (BN) to avoid multi-cornered fights in GE15, but no final decision had been reached as yet.
The Pagoh MP claimed that following the Johor state election, he was approached by leaders of several political parties, including Pejuang, who had expressed that view.
On April 1, opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had also said he had meetings with Muhyiddin Yassin but had never discussed political cooperation or support for Muhyiddin to be prime minister again.
Anwar, who is PKR president, said the issue of support for Muhyiddin had never arisen.
Zahid further said Warisan President Shafie Apdal had said he was contacted by Muhyiddin for a cooperation in the coming general elections.
"But Shafie is reported to have rejected it," Zahid said.
