SHAH ALAM - The National Science Week 2022 organised by Academy of Sciences Malaysia (ASM) aims to raise awareness on the importance of planetary health at all levels of society in the country.

Carrying the theme “Popularising Science, Humanising Technology”, the programme also aimed at encouraging each individual to focus on and undertake earth conservation efforts centred on science, technology, innovation, and economics (STIE).

This included ecosystems, biodiversity, health, and climate change.

The programme will be held virtually via www.minggusainsnegara.com from April to October, this year, with different planetary health focus areas to be introduced every month.

ASM chief executive officer Hazami Habib said using STIE, the academy wanted planetary health to be mainstreamed and invited people to understand their role in finding new solutions and prepare to face related challenges in the future.

“This initiative that focuses on planetary health is very timely to be introduced following the various current situations we are experiencing in Malaysia, such as climate change, infectious diseases, and the Covid-19 pandemic,” she said in a statement, on Friday.

The programme will be featuring Planetary Health Webinar, Planetary Health E-Game, Ceritera Sains TikTok, and National Science Challenge 2022.

Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Career Webinar by Science Icon and Inquiry-Based Science Education Training (IBSE) will also be featured under the Culture and Awareness focus area.
