CAAM confirms a night training flight accident at Langkawi International Airport

SHAH ALAM - An accident involving an aircraft at Langkawi International Airport has been reported at 8:04 PM on Wednesday, March 30.

The night training flight accident has been confirmed by the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM).

Its CEO Datuk Captain Chester Voo Chee Soon said the Diamond DA-40D, 9M-HMW operated by HM Aerospace Sdn Bhd (HMA) had landed and veered off the runway upon touchdown.

However, the situation has been handled as the pilot in command is in a stable condition and is currently receiving medical assistance.

The runway was reopened for scheduled commercial flights at 10:29 PM after the aircraft involved was removed for the runway’s operations.

“The aircraft sustained structural damage and was removed at 10:25 PM to a position to ensure safe operations of the runway.

“The runway was re-opened for scheduled commercial flights at 10:29 PM and the safety investigation will be conducted by the Air Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) under the Ministry of Transport Malaysia in accordance with Part XXVI Civil Aviation Regulations 2016,” he said in a statement.
