Sabah Bersatu given autonomy to make decisions, assures party info chief
KOTA KINABALU - Sabah's Bersatu chapter will always be given the autonomy to make their own decisions for the state, said party information chief Datuk Wan Saiful Wan Jan.
Wan Saiful said the powers granted to Sabah Bersatu chief, Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor has been utilised appropriately for the state.
"Maybe we don't use the word autonomy officially but in practice, Sabah Bersatu is given the freedom to make the right and appropriate decisions for the Sabah state government.
"So far, the powers have been utilised well and I congratulate Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor and the entire Sabah Bersatu leadership as they have been successful in managing this trust given by the party at the federal level, well,'' he said to reporters after attending a dialogue session with Sabah Bersatu information officers here, yesterday.
Commenting further, Wan Saiful said the focus of the Sabah state government has always been on the interest of its people.
"This is something that is envied by other states because the focus has never been away from the welfare of its people and developing the Sabah state economy for the betterment of the people.
"So to me, the powers and freedom given must be used appropriately and we hope this will continue,'' he said.
When asked whether Bersatu's performance in the recently concluded Johor state election was a warning to the party, Wan Saiful merely stated that party machinery needed to be strengthened.
"For me, it is important that party machinery is strengthened and we have to be ready for any possibilities for a general election or otherwise,'' he said.
