"I am a work in progress" - Will Smith apologises to Chris Rock
In an effort to make amends for the infamous “Oscars slap”, actor Will Smith took to Instagram to publicly apologise to comedian Chris Rock.
Smith, who won an award for best actor just moments after his emotional outburst took place, described his behaviour as “unacceptable and inexcusable”.
“Violence in all of its forms is poisonous and destructive.
“Jokes at my expense are a part of the job, but a joke about Jada’s medical condition was too much for me to bear and I reacted emotionally,” he justified in his statement.
He then admitted that he was out of line and in the wrong, “I am embarrassed and my actions were not indicative of the man I want to be.
“There is no place for violence in a world of love and kindness,” he added.
Smith also apologised to the Academy, the producers of the show “King Richard”, all attendees as well as viewers of the awards ceremony in his post.
He expressed regret over the incident and called himself a “work in progress”.
It was reported that the Oscars film academy has condemned him for slapping Chris Rock at the 94th Academy Awards, which then led to a formal review of the incident.
The statement said that by doing so, Smith has stolen the limelight from what should have been a celebration of achievements and last night’s award winners.
Smith's apology comes hot on the heels of the scuffle that took place on stage at the Oscar ceremony, when Smith slapped presenter Chris Rock for making a joke about his wife's bald head.
