KOTA KINABALU - A jealous husband slashed his wife’s throat in an incident at a rented room in Segama last night at about 10.50pm.

The 23-year-old victim died after sustaining severe injuries.

Kota Kinabalu District police chief assistant commissioner Mohd Zaidi Abdullah said the Kota Kinabalu District Police Headquarters (IPD) operations room received a phone call from a 31-year-old male suspect over the incident at 11.47pm.

The suspect had said he stabbed his wife with a knife.

"A team of officers and policemen rushed to the location and confirmed the incident when they found a severely injured woman lying down on the ground, covered in blood.

"The 31-year-old male suspect confronted the victim before going to the kitchen to get a knife and attacked the victim," he said when contacted today.

He added that the suspect was detained for questioning for further investigations.

"So far the motive of the incident is jealousy," he said the couple has a year old daughter.

The suspect is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
