Table anti-hopping bill or 'we will take to the streets', warns Mat Sabu

SHAH ALAM - Another reform left halfway after a delay in tabling anti-hopping laws at the Dewan Rakyat.

MPs in the House today questioned the delay as the sitting ends this Thursday. Both the government and the opposition MPs were in unison to question the delay.

Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz (BN-Padang Rengas) said the bill should be tabled and any changes could be tweaked later. He said MPs would support the tabling of the bills unless "they are frogs" and these are the minority.

This comes after de facto law minister Datuk Seri Wan Juniadi Tuanku Jaafar had said the bill requires "further deliberation" before tabling it at the Dewan Rakyat.

Mohamad Sabu (PH-Kota Raja) during his debate said people's trust in parliamentary democracy has eroded after the Sheraton Move which saw the elected PH administration toppled from Putrajaya after 22 months in power.

He said the anti-hopping laws is seen as one of the solutions to right the wrong.

However, he said the delay in tabling anti-hopping laws could see people taking their frustrations to the streets.

He added if it is not tabled "my friends and I will take it to the streets to push for it." He said this to a resounding aye from the MPs.

"We see we are being ignored in Parliament. This is a warning," he said while debating the supplementary supply bill.

On Sunday, Lim Guan Eng (PH-Bagan) had said the memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the government and PH signed in September could end if the anti-hopping laws are not tabled with this month, as agreed.
