Dashcam - a useful tool for evidence and claim
SHAH ALAM - Recording from vehicle dashboard camera can be used in court if the judge accepts it, said an academic.
International Islamic University Malaysia (UIAM), Professor Nik Ahmad Kamal Nik Mahmood said due to that it was crucial to ensure it has the date and time of recording.
"In the case of an accident, the dashcam will record a vehicle's registration number, colour and vehicle. The footage can also indicate whether the driver has violated road rules or committed negligence," he said.
For instance, it also records the driving style of the driver, and the environment.
Kamal said it could also be used for claims of injury, as it shows physical assault from the attacker, the clothes worn, the vehicle driven and the weapon or tool used.
Meanwhile, the National University of Malaysia (SME), Professor Dr Rozmi Ismail proposed that the government encourages the device to be used in all new vehicles.
He also added that it is important to improve safety, and this will make the public cautious.
"During an emergency or accident, there will be a dispute between two or more parties. A dashcam is necessary and I strongly support as a way to look into the cause of the accident," he said.
