SHAH ALAM - Despite dealing with an uncertain political and economical climate wrought by the pandemic, Malaysia has risen in the ranks in the World Happiness Report 2022 by placing 70th place out of 149 countries.

Previously in 2021, Malaysia ranked 81st in the World Happiness Report and was seen to be behind many of its Asean neighbours.

This year marks the 10th anniversary of the World Happiness Report, which uses global survey data to indicate the way people perceive the country they live in and how they evaluate their own life.

The data is gathered based on the average life evaluation based on six factors - income, healthy life expectancy, having someone to count on in times of trouble, generosity, freedom and trust, and the absence of corruption in business and government.

Malaysia scored 5.711 while Finland, which is No 1 is the report and deemed the happiest place to live, scored 7.821 followed by Denmark with 7.636 at No 2.

In Asean, Singapore still comes in first by placing 27th place with a score of 6.480, followed by the Philippines which ranks at 60th place (5.904) and then Thailand at 61st place (5.891).

Only Vietnam and Indonesia rank lower compared to Malaysia, placing at 77th and 87th place, respectively.
