SHAH ALAM - Datuk Hakimah Mohd Yusoff makes history as the first female Director-General of the Islamic Development Department of Malaysia (Jakim), effective March 21, 2022.

Announcing it today, Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Mohd Zuki Ali said the selection of Hakimah, who is the former Deputy Director General (Policy) in Jakim, is based on her 30-year service in the department.

"This appointment made history in Jakim since its the first time led the department is by a woman while simultaneously increasing women's involvement as a decision-maker in public service," he said in a statement today and congratulated the appointment of Hakimah.

Mohd Zuki hopes that the appointment of Hakimah would drive Jakim towards strengthening its role as an Islamic affairs agency at the Federal level.

Graduated with a Bachelor's Degree (Hons) from the University of Malaya (UM) in 1990 and a Master's Degree from University Putra Malaysia in 2001, Hakimah began her career in the civil service as the Assistant Director of Jakim 's Halal Hub Division in 1992.
