Better broadband quality via Jendela - Annuar
SHAH ALAM - Communications and Multimedia Minister Tan Sri Annuar Musa said the government will improve the quality of broadband services nationwide.
He said at least 43,300 premises in the country will receive high-speed broadband connectivity through the National Digital Network (Jendela).
Attention, he said will be given to areas with no network services.
“As of the fourth quarter of 2021, a total of 1,131 new communication towers were built out of 3,205 towers planned.
“Apart from that, the quality of services need to be fixed by upgrading transmission stations.
"Over 30,180 transmission stations have been upgraded out of 30,810 planned," he said during the Parliament sitting, today.
Commenting further, he said the quality and the connectivity depended on the newly built and upgraded towers and it was also needed to ensure the country has wide fibre-optic access to reach the premises for better service quality.
He said a total of 1,890,899 out of 2,527,189 planned premises were upgraded with the fibre-optic access.
“As of now 437 locations were installed with satellite broadband (WiFi) out of 839 locations while 402 locations are still in the implementation phase,” he said.
He said the government has implemented the broadband infrastructure through Point of Present (POP) fibre-optic hubs to ensure network and coverage of broadband could be expanded in schools and industrial areas.
The first phase of POP, he said involved 630 locations especially in rural school areas while the second phase involved 3,693 locations with an allocation of over RM4 billion.
