Hasni, who was BN's poster boy during the election campaign is said to be up against Puad (left) and Onn (right).
Speculation is rife that the seat may go to Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi.
"He is the favourite at the moment," an insider told Sinar Daily.
The 43-year-old, a graduate from the University of Hertfordshire, was Johor's former state councilor who overlooked the youth and sports portfolio.
"The other person is Umno supreme council member (Datuk Dr) Puad Zakarshi," the source added.
He said these are the two names that have been thrown in the hat if the seat does not go to Datuk Seri Hasni Mohammad, the former Menteri Besar before the state assembly was dissolved on Jan 22.
The final decision will be by Johor Sultan, Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar.
Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi was reported to be at Umno Johor's office earlier today.
Johor went to the polls on March 12 with Umno winning 40 out of the total 56 seats.
