Muhyiddin ready to step down if that’s what PN wants
SHAH ALAM - Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said he was prepared to step down as the PN chairman following the party’s defeat in the Johor state election.
He said if that was what the PN leadership wants, he was willing to let go of the position.
“I am ready to let go of my position if that is what (PN leadership) wants as we practice democracy,” he said.
He said however, the decision was not up to him, but the leadership of the PN component parties.
He added that as of now, there was no discussion regarding a new coalition with other opposition parties.
Muhyiddin also said he accepted the result of the 15th state election as it is.
He said this during a press conference held at the PN's command centre in Senai, tonight.
He also said he was grateful that PN has managed to win three state seats namely the Maharani, Endau and Bukit Kepong seats considering that it was still new.
“In several areas, it can be seen that we have gained the attention from the people in Johor despite being a new party,” he said.
He said although he was glad with the response, it was not powerful enough to bring changes in the state.
However, he said this was also an indicator that PN is well accepted in the community.
In his response to the poor voter turnout, he said he had no idea why and how it happened.
He said it might be due to the surge of the Omicron variant which made people scared to go out and vote which then led to PN losing most of its contested seats to BN.
“At the end of the day, it is up to the voters to make the decision,” he added.
