Don't give in to those who want GE after July, says Zahid
JOHOR BAHRU - Umno President Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the rakyat should not give in to those who want general elections after July this year.
During press conference today, he said the opposition should not be given space to "rearrange themselves" as the additional time would give them space to boost diminishing trusts and to increase the "feel-good factor".
The delay, he said shows the opposition is facing internal conflict, and are not confident of winning if elections are held early
"They fear being rejected by the rakyat," he further told reporters.
Due to that, he said the opposition should not be given the time and space to rearrange themselves.
"The choice of the rakyat is changing (since GE14). They want BN," he said.
This could give BN a new mandate at the national level to finally form stable government, he added.
The ongoing memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed in September last year between PH and the federal government ends in July.
Yesterday, DAP national organising secretary Anthony Loke Siew Cook had called on the prime minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob to extend the MoU till next year.
He urged Ismail Sabri to put GE15 on hold due to Covid-19 pandemic and suggested for the extension to be called "MoU 2.0" and extended beyond July 31.
Loke had further said the MoU 2.0 could look at tackling Constituency Development Fund Act which ensures all MPs get equal allocations.
