During his tenure as the education minister under the PH administration, he has pushed for various initiatives to improve the learning experience at schools and the overall quality of education.

Even following the fall of the PH government, after his former party Bersatu switched allegiances, Maszlee has remained a consistent voice to push for these reforms within the opposition bloc.

After more than a year of standing as an independent lawmaker, Maszlee has finally joined PKR in November of last year, expressing that his principles and that of the party are the same.
