Is Muda a traitor in Larkin? Rasid says no, 'its healthy democracy'
NURUL NABILA AHMAD HALIMYSHAH ALAM: The Muda-PKR clash has sparked controversy in the Larkin state seat with some praising the new party's courage while others simply said the party is violating PKR's space.
This comes as Muda's Rasid Abu Bakar fights against PKR's Dr Zamil Najwah Arbain in the March 12 Johor polls.
Rasid said despite criticism over the move the clash opens space for a healthy democracy.
Asked if Muda is a traitor to PKR, he said his party had talks with PKR, DAP and Amanah and the latter two decided to give them six seats.
However, he said PKR had a different view. "Although we might not reach a consensus through negotiations, I believe the clash opens space for a healthy democracy," he told Sinar Premium.
He added his young party is not here to argue nor to bring down any party. "We are here to help raise the voice of the people in Johor, that's our main goal," he said.
Rasid has also brushed off criticism, calling it "old political tricks" but said he intends to focus on the responsibilities ahead the party has bestowed over him.
Asked for reasons for Muda to field a candidate despite knowing PKR has fielded one, he said Muda’s decision to field in six seats is based on candidates. "My friends are contesting in rural areas such as Parit Raja, Machap and Bukit Kepong which are Perikatan Nasional (PN) areas."
He said Muda looked at the experience of the candidate, familiarity with the area as well and the ability to serve and lead the people
"I grew up, studied and worked in Larkin. I pretty much understand the ins and outs of the area. So when Muda entrusted me to be a candidate at Larkin, I said I will do my best."
The 28-year-old hopes to bring economic development in the area. For instance, he would assist hawkers and small traders in the digital economy. He would also like to introduce Microsoft Excel, graphic designing and coding to students for free.
