SHAH ALAM - The Senate President has proposed higher fines to be imposed on MPs caught using foul language from the present RM1,000 to RM20,000 or even jail term.

Rais Yatim said MPs have not undergone training from the National Institute of Public Administration (Intan) which trains civil servants and are not aware of the dos and don'ts while debating issues at the House.

He cited two previous incidents in 2018. The first was on Aug 6 with Jelutong MP, RSN Rayer in an additional question to Home Minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin which led to heated argument between both sides of the divide.

The next day, Kinabatangan MP, Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin uttered f*** you in Parliament. He later admitted that his actions were unparliamentary and violated Standing Orders.

“Therefore, the code of ethics for MPs should be re-established in which they should be trained on how to serve the people as well as to establish syllabus for members to practice good behavior, to be honest, not to be involved in corruption and set a good example to others,” he said in an interview with Sinar Harian.
