KLANG - The Selangor Department of Environment (DoE) has warned the public to not conduct open burning activities as those who were caught doing so could be slapped with a compound of up to RM2,000.

In a statement on Facebook, today, DoE said it detected open burning activities near an agricultural area during a routine patrol at Johan Setia, here.

The activity, it said was believed to be for the purpose of vegetable cultivation.

“An order to immediately extinguish the open burning has been issued by the department's enforcement officers and further investigations will be carried out.

“The public are reminded that open burning activities are strictly prohibited and offenders could receive a maximum compound of RM2,000," the department said.

DoE had also in the statement stated that those who were convicted of the offence in court, could be fined up to RM500,000 or sentenced to a maximum of five years jail, or both.
