The Drug Control Authority (DCA) agreed to give conditional registration approval for the use of CoronaVac Suspension for Injection Covid-19 Vaccine (Vero Cell) for children aged five to 11.

SHAH ALAM - The CoronaVac Suspension for Injection Covid-19 Vaccine (Vero Cell) can be used for children aged five to 11.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah announced that the Drug Control Authority (DCA) during its 370th meeting, today, agreed to give conditional registration approval on the use of the vaccine produced by Sinovac Life Sciences Co Ltd, China and Pharmaniaga Lifescience Sdn Bhd.

He said in a statement that it was the second Covid-19 vaccine approved for children of the age group, after the Corminaty vaccine which was approved on Jan 6.

He said the conditional approval registration still required information on the quality, safety and efficacy of the vaccine product and that it would be monitored and evaluated continuously by the National Pharmaceutical Regulatory Division (NPRA) based on the current and latest data.

This, he said was to ensure that the comparison of the benefit over risk for the vaccine to remain positive.

He added that the Health Ministry will remain committed in enhancing the access to vaccine products to prevent the spread of Covid-19 in Malaysia by ensuring that the vaccine was properly evaluated based on aspects of quality, safety and efficacy.
