Putrajaya moves in to tackle 72,348 inheritance backlog cases

KUALA LUMPUR - Energy and Natural Resources Ministry (KETSA) recorded 72,358 backlog cases involving inheritance nationwide as of December 2021.
Its minister, Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan said, out of the total, Kedah recorded the highest backlog cases with 13,423, followed by Selangor (10,358) and Johor (9,062).
He said various measures have been put in place by the government to tackle backlog issues.
“Among them are mobilising the Special Task Force under Lands and Mines Department director-general to assist in the trial of inheritance cases with the cooperation of state governments, he said at the Dewan Rakyat here, Thursday.
He was replying to a question by Sabri Azit (Pas-Jerai) to list the number of backlog inheritance distribution cases according to states and immediate measures to tackle the issue.
Takiyuddin said an Inheritance Case Arrears Settlement Clinic has also started since Feb 14 in Kedah.
The next measure would be to submit an application to the Public Service Department (JPA) and the Finance Ministry (MOF) for staff on a contract basis, replied the minister.
