Weatherman warns of more rain in 6 states
KOUSALYA SELVAMKUALA LUMPUR - The Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued warnings of more rain in 6 states this morning, raising concerns over the increase of flood victims seeking temporary shelters.
The states are Terengganu, Melaka, Sarawak, Pahang, Kelantan and Perlis.
According to Public Infobanjir portal, one river in Terengganu is at a danger level while another two each in Terengganu and Melaka have hit the warning zones. A total of eight rivers in the remaining states are within the alert zone.
The number of flood victims in Kelantan has increased while Terengganu recorded a slight drop. As of 4pm yesterday, Kelantan reported 8,151 victims, an increase from 2,626 victims from the previous day, while in Terengganu 16,377 flood victims were reported from 17,742 victims a day earlier.
The secretariat of the state disaster management committee stated that the victims of 4,226 families are placed in 103 relief centre in Kemaman, Dungun, Marang, Hulu Terengganu, Kuala Terengganu, Kuala Nerus, Setiu dan Besut.
According to data collected, Kemaman has the highest number of flood victims (8,734 victims), followed by Dungun (3,106), Hulu Terengganu (2,626), Kuala Nerus (534), Kuala Terengganu (498), Besut (431) and Setiu (403).
