Two men in remand for giving RM75,000 bribe to TNB officer
SEREMBAN - Two men have been remanded for six days from today on suspicion of bribing a Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) officer of RM75,000 to conceal their power theft activity for bitcoin-mining purposes.
The order to remand the suspects aged 49 and 50 was made by special remand court assistant registrar Mas Azmimin Ahmad, today.
Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) prosecuting officer Riduan Kadri made the remand application.
It is understood that both the suspects had allegedly offered and gave RM75,000 in bribes to the TNB officer in charge of the Southern Zone (Melaka, Johor,Negeri Sembilan) from August, last year. to January, this year.
The amount was purportedly offered as an inducement to turn a blind eye on the electricity theft at several premises around Negeri Sembilan to carry out bitcoin mining activities.
The suspects were detained at the MACC office in Negeri Sembilan at about 3.30pm on Monday.
The investigations under Section 17(b) of the MACC Act 2009, carries a maximum 20 years jail and a fine of not less than five times the value of the gratification in question or RM10,000, whichever is higher, if convicted.
