PONTIAN: Johor recorded history today after registering up to 7 candidates at some of the nomination centres.

BN Johor state chief Hasni Mohammad said there were 56 nomination centres with 4 to 7-corner fights.

"This shows democracy is alive and kicking," he said during a press conference at Benut Multipurpose hall, here today.

Hasni, the Benut seat candidate faces other three candidates. He faces Senator Datuk Isa Ab Hamid (PN), Iskandar Noor Ibrahim (Pejuang) and Haniff Ghazali Housman (PKR).

Isa of PN said the four corner fight will split votes and see BN's stronghold losing its dominance in Benut.

The newcomer added thorough preparation are crucial with their election machinery to work effectively under new norms.

The local boy, added he had served a teacher in SMK Benut and understands the needs of the locals who are mostly famers and fishermen.

PKR's Ghazali said he is not afraid to face Hasni, the three-term state assemblyman.

"There is an increase of young voters here and I will understand the needs of the young and the community here," he added.

Pejuang's Iskandar said he welcomes the fight. "I will fight for agriculture development and the improving the lives of the locals," he added.
