Monkey drenched in red paint, tied up in cage, sparks outrage among Malaysians
SHAH ALAM - A video of a poor monkey tied up in a cage after its whole body was covered in red paint has triggered anger among netizens who slammed the culprits for the inhumane act.
The Malaysia Animal Association which recently shared a video of the incident on its Facebook page is demanding strict punishments to be imposed on the individuals who were behind this.
According to the association, painting monkeys has become increasingly evident in the country and every year, several cases involving such cruelty towards animals were reported.
Those who did this to the monkey did not even think about the life and safety of the primate when they released it back to its habitat, they wrote.
The association added that the monkey might get hurt or even be killed as a result of being attacked by its colony which would not recognise its friend painted in red.
In the two-minute video, the monkey which was seen weak, was released back into the jungle by an individual.
However, the location of the incident has yet to be identified.
Meanwhile, the association urged for all parties to help identify the culprits and the location of the incident, if it happened in Malaysia.
It said strict actions could be taken by the Department of Wildlife and National Parks (Perhilitan) against the people involved in the incident.
Under the Wildlife Protection Act 2010, the perpetrator will face a jail sentence or a fine, if found guilty.
