Covid-19: ICU beds utilisation in Johor, Kelantan, Selangor over 50 per cent

SHAH ALAM - Intensive Care Unit (ICU) bed utilisation in Johor, Kelantan and Kuala Lumpur have charted more than 50 per cent usage as of yesterday (Feb 19), according to the Health Ministry.

In a statement today, the Director-General of Health Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah stated Johor sees the highest ICU bed utilisation thus far at 70 per cent, followed by Kuala Lumpur (64 per cent) and Kelantan (50 per cent) Selangor follows suits at 46 per cent, Melaka (42 per cent) and Perak (40 per cent). Both Putrajaya and Labuan recorded zero ICU bed utilisation while only Sarawak recorded a single-digit utilisation at six per cent.

Overall, the nation has 828 ICU hospital beds to accommodate severe Covid-19 patients, another 11,568 non-critical hospital beds and another 10,769 beds in low-risk quarantine centres.

Dr Noor Hisham assured us that currently, public healthcare facilities are still able to cope with Covid-19 cases but plans have been made for each state to tackle high Covid-19 patients occupancy.

In the last 24 hours, Malaysia recorded 28,374 new Covid-19 cases with 34 new fatalities, 12 of them are brought in dead cases.

Currently, there are 243,342 active cases nationwide and 3,173,908 cumulative cases thus far.
