BloomThis: Expanding operations amidst the pandemic

Covid-19 began as a health crisis which accelerated into a global economic crisis, affecting big and small businesses around the world.

BloomThis, an e-commerce platform that offers on-demand delivery services for handcrafted designer flowers, artisanal and personalised gifts, including gourmet food, was no exception.

Disruptions to their supply chains for imported fresh flowers from China, Taiwan, India, Netherlands was one of the major issues faced by BloomThis at the height of the pandemic.

Co-founder and managing director Penny Choo said they relied on local blooms from Cameron Highland to keep their business moving.

“Luckily, we have our lovely Cameron Highlands and the local fresh flowers growers there helped us supply fresh flowers for us to fulfil orders from customers,” she said in an interview with Sinar Daily.

Despite the major crisis they faced during the pandemic, BloomThis bounced back stronger, expanding its operations in a new office warehouse last December.

The 40,000 sq ft warehouse in Petaling Jaya is where 70 staff members come together to ensure operations run smoothly from finance, HR, marketing, customer care logistics and production.

Recently, the business also expanded its offerings to include artisanal handcrafted gifts, gourmet cuisine such as cakes, ice creams, pastries and beverages, food hampers, as well as plants.

To make this work, BloomThis tied up with a number of well-known local and international brands.

The product expansion was done to create celebrations that are more meaningful for customers said Penny.

“We will continue to innovate our products and services and see how we can bring this mission of creating moments of happiness to more people in other regions out there,” she said.

BloomThis operates seven days a week and customers who place their orders before 3pm will be able to receive it on the same day.
