SHAH ALAM- The people are advised to always be professional in evaluating or reviewing politicians and to stop assuming that all of them are involved in corruption.

Political analyst Dr Hussain Yusri Zawawi said not all politicians are like that, as there were still some who were honest in carrying out their duty.

“If any politicians are involved in such practice, the relevant authorities like the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and the judiciary, among others, should take action against them

“As citizens, we need to be aware of the issues regarding corruption and be professional,” he said in a Rasuah Busters programme called “Undi 18 Jadi Rebutan, Jangan Sampai Sogok”, on Wednesday.

Hussain also said the practice of giving money to the people to gain votes would be very difficult to be drastically eliminated.

He said the political figures need to ensure such negative practices do not happen during the elections.

“This was because many people in the past were persuaded with false promises for the sake of the political party’s interest to attract votes easily and this should not be the case.

“However, I think the young people today are not easily influenced as they are already aware of the situation due to mass media exposure.

“Previously, it was hard to recognise such practices because the media coverage was not as wide and I believe that young people today know what is good for the country,” he explained.

Apart from that, Hussain said he was of the opinion that a political party should not mention that they would be able to acquire huge wins during the Johor state election as it was up to the young people to decide.

"If the family supports Umno, it is not certain that the children will also support the party and due to that all political parties cannot declare a big victory in the election because the decision will be made by the young people,” he said.
