SHAH ALAM: As the election fever heats up in Johor, Umno Johor wants seats allocated according to the profile of voters.
Umno Johor chief Hasni Mohamad said there is a need to improve the chances of winning especially with almost 750,000 Undi18 voters voting for the first time.
"So not just because the seat is MCA or MIC, and it should remain (under them)...no.
"Moreover with the addition of new voters, we need to re-examine the profiles of specific voters and constituencies. We will have in-depth negotiations if we have a seat for the Friends of BN political party," he said.
Umno is said to be eyeing for 42 seats out of the 56 Johor state polls on March 12.
Hasni, the Johor Menteri Besar before the state assembly was dissolved on Jan 22 said winnable candidates from MCA and MIC are equally important to win the state polls.
Johor has recorded an increase of almost 30 per cent voters, with almost 750,000 Undi18 voters, bringing the total of voters to 2.5 mil as compared to 1.8 mil during GE14 in 2018.
However, he said BN will not promise the "moon and the stars" to lure them but would provide space and opportunities for a better future.
Hasni also denied allegations that lower Chinese voter turnout will boost BN's chances of winning polls.
"I think it is time for us to stop thinking this way as the percentage of voters among Malays and non-Malays are almost the same," he said, adding that if the voter turnout was lower it would mean Malay voters did not cast their votes too.
