SEREMBAN - The Negeri Sembilan police have detained a man over the fraudulent hotel voucher sales involving losses totalling RM24,440.

State Commercial Crime Investigation Department chief Supt Aibee Abd Ghani said the 56-year-old man was detained in Ampang, Selangor last Feb 5 by a team from the Nilai district police headquarters (IPD).

"Also seized were two mobile phones and a Maybank ATM card belonging to the suspect. Investigations found that 13 police reports have been lodged in connection with the case,” he said in a statement here today.

He said the investigation paper on the case had been handed over to the Negeri Sembilan Deputy Public Prosecutor and the suspect was expected to be charged in court soon.

Aibee said the man had been involved in such activities since two years ago following a police report received by the Nilai IPD on Aug 21, 2020.

He said according to the report, a teacher claimed to have lost RM1,214 after finding that the Lexis Hibiscus Hotel voucher he purchased was not valid.

Aibee said said the case was being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code.

He urged the public not to be easily deceived by the cheap hotel voucher prices offered by any party and to conduct checks with the hotel or tourism agencies before making a purchase. - BERNAMA
