Johor polls: PKR and Muda at standoff over three seat offer

SHAH ALAM - The Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (Muda) has been offered three state seats by Johor PKR to contest for the upcoming state election.

In a statement yesterday, Johor PKR state chief Syed Ibrahim Syed Noh said they have made the offer after holding three series of talks with Muda, in line with the wishes of Pakatan Harapan (PH) presidential council and Johor PH.

"Each party has given their open and honest views during these series of negotiations.

"Based on these negotiations, PKR has offered three seats to Muda and is now waiting for a response on the offer,'' said a brief statement by Syed Ibrahim.

However, Muda's political bureau had refuted Syed Ibrahim's assertion, instead claiming that the negotiations between PKR and the party has yet to be finalised.

"Through bilateral negotiations, Muda as well as allies from DAP and Amanah have come to an agreement and made a joint announcement today, Feb 9.

"Negotiations with Muda and PKR has yet to be finalised.

"Muda have suggested contesting in three seats. All three seats were not won by PKR in the previous general election.

"Muda respects the rights of our allies in PKR to defend their existing seats. However, PKR has yet to give their final say in regards to these three seats,'' said the statement issued yesterday.

This follows after DAP, Amanah and Muda have reached a consensus yesterday for the latter to contest in six of PH's seats.

Muda will be contesting in Tenang, Bukit Kepong, Parit Raja, Machap, Puteri Wangsa and Bukit Permai.

The Election Commission has set nomination for Feb 26 and polling day for March 12, with early voting to be held on March 8.
