Covid-19: Malaysia reports 9,117 new cases on Saturday
KUALA LUMPUR - The number of new Covid-19 infections in Malaysia has once again exceeded the 9,000 mark when 9,117 cases were reported today, compared to 7,234 cases yesterday.
Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said this brings the cumulative figure for positive cases to 2,904,131 as of noon today.
Of the total new infections, he said 47 cases were in categories three, four and five while the remaining 9,070 cases were in categories one and two.
"Some 134 cases are imported cases while 8,983 cases are local infections. Meanwhile, 123 cases are being treated at the intensive care units, with 67 requiring respiratory support,” he said in his daily statement on the Covid-19 situation in the country.
Dr Noor Hisham said a total of 6,546 recoveries were reported today, taking the cumulative number of recovered cases to 2,806,154.
He also said that 10 new clusters were recorded with 353 clusters still active thus far.
The country’s infectivity rate (Rt) was at 1.13 as of yesterday, with Perlis recording the highest Rt at 1.33, followed by Sabah (1.29) and Kedah (1.19). - BERNAMA
