Selangor MB apologises for delay in giving out flood aid
SHAH ALAM - Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari has apologised for the delay in distributing the Bantuan Selangor Bangkit (BSB ) disaster aid in Klang and Petaling districts.
This, he said was due to the high number of applications in both districts.
He said the state government found out that there were overlapping applications causing a delay in the approval process.
“Klang recorded 77,000 applications and we were unable to process 30,000 of them.
“The aid is only limited to 1,000 applications a day and it had caused a delay in the distribution process,” he said at a special BSB press conference at the Selangor Economic Action Council (MTES), Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah building, here, on Thursday.
He was commenting on the Selangor Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) Coalition’s action submitting a memorandum urging the state government to distribute the BSB contributions to flood victims immediately.
He said the state government would increase the limit to give out the payment from 1,000 to 3,000 recipients a day starting next week to speed up the distribution process.
He added that the distribution was expected to be fully completed by the end of February.
“Over 55,425 families who were affected by the flood in nine regions have received the BSB aid of RM1,000 as of Wednesday, while 13 families have received RM10,000.
“This means that a total RM55.5 million have been distributed as of now,” he said.
He added that as of Thursday, over 109,000 applications were received by the state government.
