Nurul Azurin hopes for contract renewal at Misaka Utd
KUALA LUMPUR - The future of national women’s football squad goalkeeper Nurul Azurin Mazlan in India is still in question despite her excellent performance with the Misaka United FC recently.
Nurul Azurin, who was named the best goalkeeper in the Karnataka Women’s League 2021/2022 season, is still waiting for news from Misaka United FC regarding her new contract’s extension.
She added that her contract status was still under discussion with the club.
"Now we are still waiting for the decision from the All India Football Federation (AIFF) on whether Misaka United gets a slot to go to the Indian Women League (IWL) or not,” said Nurul Azurin who was named the Best Women Player of the National Football Awards (ABK) 2015 and 2018.
"If Misaka United can get the slot in the IWL, they will probably call me back,” she said when contacted by Bernama today.
Nurul Azurin, who previously played for two months starting last Dec until her contract expired on Jan 31, managed to record four 'clean sheets' from eight matches throughout the league.
Meanwhile, the 22-year-old Nurul Azurin is satisfied to prove that Malaysia has good players to play abroad.
"I feel happy because we can set a benchmark on the status of Malaysian players, so they (foreign clubs) can see that Malaysian players are equally good,” she said.
Therefore, she hopes that her performance in India will open the eyes of teams from abroad to lure other Malaysian players in the future.
Nurul Azurin had previously represented Malaysia in the 2022 Women’s Asian Cup qualifiers in Palestine, in September last year. - BERNAMA
