She said it's crucial for the Malaysia Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to be established as a liberated agency in order to resolve the controversy involving its chief commissioner, Tan Sri Azam Baki.
“The institution (MACC) is the key to determining the stability of the economy, the politics and the democracy of the country.
“Hence, if the institution is allowed to function independently, we’re getting there somewhere,” she said during Wacana English Edition last night, titled Reforming MACC - with or without Azam Baki.
She also said that the full reformation of MACC will not only ensure political stability, but would open the door for the assistance of several other institutions including the Auditor General of Malaysia.
“I believe the MACC should be assisted by several other institutions including the Auditor General of Malaysia since this is important to check the balance and stability of the high officials in the country,” she said.
Gabriel said this is logical since the Auditor General of Malaysia functions to promote accountability by performing independent audits on the accounts of the federal government, state governments and federal statutory bodies, as well as the actions of federal and state government, ministries, departments and companies.
She stated that the reformation of the national anti-corruption commission will lead to better laws and regulations that will make people more afraid to commit malpractices since there is no flaws in the legislation in accordance with those who committed any act of such nature.
