Claiming knowledge of 'unseen' things is ridiculous

GEORGETOWN - Claiming to have knowledge of the 'unseen' is absurd and only those who are irresponsible will do such a thing.

Penang Mufti Datuk Seri Dr Wan Salim Wan Mohd Noor said engaging in such acts might lead to 'disbelief' (kufur) and apostasy.

He said Muslims were reminded through several verses in the Quran and the Hadith, that Allah will continue to test His servants' and one of the tests from Allah is the emergence of those who claim they know about the 'unseen'.

“There were various claims made by these people including that they have met Allah or Prophet Muhammad, having seen the realm of Barzakh (the whole period between death and the Day of Resurrection), the heaven and hell, having dreamt of meeting Allah and Prophet Muhammad and many more.

“These are nonsensical claims and were against what is written in the Quran, and there is no one on earth who knows about these things.

“Only Allah knows, and none of his Prophets do, unless it has been revealed to them,” he told Sinar Harian on Thursday.

His comments were in regards to a group that have been inviting people to believe in a man from Pakistan known as Muhammad Qasim Abdul Karim who claimed to have had dreams about the end of time.

The group, known as Gerakan Akhir Zaman (Gaza) from Indonesia has made its way in Malaysia and was said to have been preparing for the end of the time based on the dreams of Muhammad Qasim.

On Wednesday, Sinar Harian received an e-mail from an unknown source that was recruiting people to join the group.

“Gaza has become widespread in Indonesia with the support of various parties, and has been making progress to introduce the Pakistani man and his dreams which drew worldwide attention as many of them came true.

“Now they are holding a ‘safari dakwah’ (a preaching series, which runs for several days) in Indonesia and in the midst of preparing a land of Uzlah (seclusion) in Pakistan to help those who wanted to make ‘hijrah’ (migration),” according to the email.

Wan Salim also advised Muslims in the country to not be swayed by the group’s claims.

He added that Muslims must seek consultation from distinguished clerics (ulama) or Muslim scholars to avoid from going astray as a result of being exposed to such people.
