Entrepreneur realises dream to produce own curry paste with govt's help

Abdul Mutalib Mohamad, 38, who ventured into the business in 2015, said MARDI had assisted him in facilitating the process to produce fish, chicken and beef curry paste as well as grilled fish paste under his brand, Warung Santai D'River (WSDR).
He said for a start, 1,000 packets of the paste would be sold at five Sabasun malls in Terengganu and at his eateries in Kuala Terengganu and Paka.
"I have also received an initial offer from the Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (FAMA) to penetrate Dubai market as well as several other Southeast Asian countries in the near future,” he said adding that the Terengganu Entrepreneur Development Foundation (YPU) has also helped him in terms of promotions and business guidance.
"Without the help of all these government agencies and departments, my dream of producing my brand of paste might be difficult to achieve," he said.
He said this when met after the launching ceremony of WSDR curry paste, officiated by YPU chief executive officer Mohd Iskandar Muhammad Aziz here today.
"Whenever customers ask about the curry and grilled fish paste, I could only tell them that it would be released soon, even though I didn’t know how (the processes involved) to produce my own paste.
"I didn’t know what steps should be taken until a friend suggested that I follow a course conducted at Terengganu MARDI last year,” he said, adding that he continued to pursue that dream and in less than two months his hard work paid off.
Located in Kampung Pasir Tinggi here, WSDR is a popular food outlet among the public due to its fish head curry signature dish.
Abdul Mutalib said that he hoped other entrepreneurs would take up the opportunities provided by the government to help them expand their business and explore overseas markets.- BERNAMA
