KUALA LUMPUR -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob has revealed that some parties directly involved in disaster management did not pay heed to weather alerts issued by The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) on the concerning rainfall brought about by the northeast monsoon.

Ismail however did not specify whether it was any government agencies or any particular person in public office but stressed these parties have failed to listen to warnings issued by MetMalaysia.

"MetMalaysia has issued six major weather alerts for continuous rain, but some parties involved in disaster management did not pay heed to the warnings.

"These parties only assumed that only the East coast states will be affected by the floods that are brought by continuous rain from the monsoon season

"Readiness for the monsoon season is largely concentrated in East coast states and the unprecedented floods in Selangor that happened was unexpected by many parties,'' he said.

Ismail Sabri was speaking during the Special Meeting of the Fourth Term of the 14th Parliament session for the Dewan Rakyat earlier today.

The special sitting is held to explain the government's actions and plans on long term flood mitigation planning.
