Fashion visionary André Leon Talley dead at 73
Former Vogue editor-at-large of US Vogue, André Leon Talley has died at the age of 73. His cause of death is unknown.
The news of his death was announced on his official Instagram page today.
Hollywood and the fashion industry flooded social media with tributes to Talley.
Diane von Furstenberg wrote: “Goodbye darling Andre. No one saw the world in a more glamorous way than you did. No one was grander and more soulful than you were. The world will be less joyful. I have loved you and laughed with you for 45 years. I miss your loud screams... I love you sooo much.”
Bob Mackie wrote: “We are saddened to hear the passing of Andre Leon Talley. Thank you for your knowledge and passion for fashion and glamour. You will be missed.”
Meanwhile, actress Kerry Washington said: “Oh Andre! Heaven is not ready for you, my darling!” Talley is remembered as a driving force in the world of fashion with an impressive career that spanned over six decades.
He started off as a reporter with Women’s Wear Daily and even penned a few books, but he rose to prominence in the fashion industry when he served as US Vogue magazine as the creative director and editor-at-large.
He was also the right-hand man of Vogue’s editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, and a close confidant of Diane von Furstenberg, Paloma Picasso as well as the late Karl Lagerfeld, Yves Saint Laurent.
