KUALA LUMPUR - The police said there was no application made for a rally to be held in Dataran Merdeka under the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012.

Dang Wangi district police chief Assistant Commissioner Noor Dellhan Yahaya said however, police did received information that certain parties were planning to hold a rally in the city centre, in the coming days.

"There will be certain parties which will always take the opportunity to organise a gathering or a protest march which is clearly against the standard operating procedures (SOP) of Phase Four of the National Recovery Plan (NRP).

"So far, we did not receive any application for a rally to be held in Dataran Merdeka," he said in a statement on Monday.

Noor Dellhan said he hoped that people would understand the importance of complying to the SOPs under the NRP and will at all times wear a mask, observe physical distancing and avoid crowds.

He said those who have any information or inquiries pertaining to the matter could contact the Dang Wangi Police District Headquarters at 03-26002222, or the Kuala Lumpur police hotline at 03- 2159999 or go to the nearest police station.

It was earlier reported that a poster urging for Tan Sri Azam Baki to step down as the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner has been circulating on social media.

The poster with the words 'Tangkap Azam Baki' (Arrest Azam Baki) and 'Rombak SPRM' (Reform MACC) appeared to be an advertisement for a Jan 22 (Saturday) event, here.
