SHAH ALAM - The outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic two years ago has put immense pressure on the rakyat especially on small and medium-sized businesses (SME) but at the same time presents new opportunities to entrepreneurs said, KL & Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall (KLSCAH) chief executive, Ong Ooi Heng.

Ong had further classified the situation as a new phenomenon that spurred healthy competition among businesses.

According to him, among the severely affected sectors are hospitality and tourism but there are several sectors that instead have benefitted and even managed to expand.

"Among businesses that benefitted were related to the internet, e-commerce and deliveries. Same for those who offered services to build websites and emails for small enterprises as well as providing goods online.

"So they are leveraging from a limited market but still managed to take this opportunity to do something and improved their own economy,'' he said to Sinar Harian.

When asked further on the effects of the pandemic, Ong said many SMEs were forced to shut down as they could not cope up with the operational cost and did not take the opportunity to adapt.
