Volunteers needed at the Quran disposal centre in Bukit Beruntung, Rawang
SHAH ALAM - About 200 tonnes of sacred scriptures has been sent to a Quran disposal centre in Bukit Beruntung, Rawang after the massive floods hit the nation a few weeks back.
Volunteers are needed to help with the disposal process at the centre as things have become overwhelming for the current team there.
Volunteer Liza Rusli said the scriptures needed to be sorted out first which was taking a lot of time since there wasn't enough manpower to carry out the process effectively.
“Since last week, I have been inviting my friends and other people to volunteer at this disposal centre but we were too exhausted by the third day due to the immense amount of sacred scriptures sent here.
“There are those from the tahfiz and ‘anak kariah’ who came here to help when they were available, but there are only three to four locals helping here per day,” she said.
Liza urged more volunteers to come and contribute their time and energy to reduce the workload, especially during the weekdays where many people are not available due to work commitments.
“Those who are available, especially during the weekdays should come to speed up the process of disposal.
“Only after the sacred scriptures have been sorted and dried can they be burned to properly dispose of them,” she said.
Volunteers, she said, would have to sort out wet sacred scriptures among the mixture of other books or garbage due to the hectic packing done during the floods.
Those who wanted to volunteer can come to the disposal centre. For more information, contact Liza Rusli at 017- 234 9960.
