Umno Supreme Council pledges support for Ismail Sabri as PM, General Assembly to be held physically in March
KUALA LUMPUR - Umno’s Supreme Council reiterates their support for Datuk Ismail Sabri Yaakob as Prime Minister and plans to further strengthen it from now on.
Its secretary-general Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan said the council meeting last night agreed to begin preparations needed to ensure a good and smooth journey for the year ahead including various events to entice new and young voters.
He said this following the passing of Undi18 and more than 5.8 million new registered voters in the next General Elections.
Ahmad also announced that the council has decided to hold the Umno General Assembly physically for four days from March 16 to 19.
The General Assembly, he said, would have the presence of 14 delegates of various wings from each division.
“All 14 delegates from each division will be invited physically as the event will not be in hybrid.
“Five delegates from each wings will also attend the assembly this time around.
“All delegates attending will need to comply to the prescribed SOPs (standard operating procedures), which includes social distancing, face mask- on at all times, use of MySejahtera and sanitisation among others,” he said in a statement on Wednesday (Jan 12).
Ahmad Maslan said the inauguration of the UMNO Women, Youth and Puteri general assemblies will take place on the first day (March 16) followed by the wings’ general assemblies on March 17.
Ahmad said on March 18, the party’s president will deliver his policy speech and inaugurate the General Assembly, which would continue until the last day (March 19).
Umno decided to postpone its 2021 General Assembly, which was slotted to take place Jan 13-15, due to the flood disasters.
Many Umno grassroots leaders were instructed to help the victims in their local areas.
Ahmad said the supreme council also expressed their gratitude to Umno members and local leaders that volunteered to help flood affected victims.
