Syndicate member who allegedly received bribes over vaccination certificate 'deals' detained

KOTA KINABALU: A man who allegedly solicited bribes of over RM2، 000 from the public for the registration of the Covid-19 vaccination certificate through the MySejahtera application has been detained by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

The 31-year old who was believed to be a part of a syndicate was arrested at about 1.30pm on Tuesday at the Kota Kinabalu MACC headquarters following an operation launched by the anti-graft agency، here.

According to a source، the suspect had allegedly handed over the money he received from the public to the volunteers on duty at one of the Covid-19 vaccination centres (PPV) in the state.

The suspect received the money as a reward to register the names of those who did not get their Covid-19 vaccination but wanted to get a digital vaccine certificate in the MySejahtera system.

Meanwhile، Sabah MACC director S.Karunanithy when contacted confirmed the arrest of the suspect.

"The suspect is being investigated under Section 16(a)(A) of the MACC Act 2009.

"A remand application is expected to be made at the Kota Kinabalu magistrate's court tomorrow (Wednesday)، "he said.
