Strong winds forced paraglider to land on mosque grounds
SUNGAI PETANI - A paraglider was injured after being blown by strong winds and forced to land in Kampung Padang Kulim Mosque, Kuala Ketil on Sunday (Jan 9).
The victim, Sharul Nizam Samsudin who is a 34-years old man from Banting, Selangor was said to start his extreme activity at 12PM around Pengkalan Hulu area in Perak.
Baling district police chief, Supt Shamsudin Mamat said, the incident occurred at 1.30pm when the victim was gliding in the air and was suddenly hit by the strong winds, causing him to lose control of his glider.
According to him, the incident has caused the victim to land at the mosque.
“Kuala Ketil Police Department received a phone call regarding the incident at 1.30pm on Sunday from a resident of the area to inform on injuries sustained by the paraglider at Masjid Kampung Padang Kulim, Kuala Ketil.
“The officer in charge had called Kuala Ketil Health Clinic to ask for an ambulance to be sent to the victim.
“At 1.15 pm, the victim was taken to the Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital in Sungai Petani, Kedah for further treatment,” he added.
According to Shamsudin, the victim has severely injured his backbone but he is reported to be stable.
As of now, no police report has been made regarding the incident.
The incident, however, has gone viral on social media.
