SHAH ALAM -- Anti-Corruption Advisory Board (ACAB) chairman Tan Sri Abu Zahar Ujang has blamed the media for the inaccuracy in the news reports on his Jan 5 press conference regarding Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief Tan Sri Azam Baki’s share ownership.

He said in a press conference today that six members of the board had distanced themselves from his earlier remarks over the issue based on the unpopular reaction from the public and several parties, due to the media reports which when claims were inaccurate.

"I would like to express my sadness at the statement which my six colleagues issued on Jan 8, that wished to distance themselves from the Jan 5 statement which I believe was due to the unpopular reaction from certain parties all because the media had not reported it accurately and comprehensively," he said.

In the press conference, Abu Zahar had prepared a statement to address the issues related to his previous press conference and stated that he would not take any questions from the press.

He said his Jan 5 press conference was not fully reported by some media and this had led to public misconceptions about his statement.

"There were various issues besides the 'allegation and misconduct' against Azam Baki that the advisory board has given its views on, but this was not reported by the media.

"Instead, a video of my press conference that went viral only showed a small part of my statement that day," he said.

He also said he will leave it to the government and the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to decide on his post as the ACAB chairman.
