PUTRAJAYA -- The government is serious in tackling the population issue of the Malayan tiger that is increasingly threatened.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the population of the Malayan tiger or its scientific name Panthera Tigris Jacksoni in the national forest is recorded to be below 150.

"Among others, it is caused by the loss of habitat and food source due to land usage, poaching as well as illegal trade, apart from the outbreak of the canine distemper virus,'' he said in a statement today.
